The Island of the Blue Dolphins is a Newberry Award winning book, by Scott O’Dell. This is an entertaining fictional story that I read in sixth grade for one of my school classes, and really enjoyed it!
Karana is an Indian girl that lives on an island of the coast of California, with her family and friends. Life is good, but due to an event (I won’t spoil it!) these Indians leave their island. Only, Karana is left behind.
Alone. She has to hunt and gather food, stay away from wolves and other danger, and figure out the answer to a big decision; will she try to find her people again, or remain alone on the island for the rest of her life.
What do you think she will do? Read it to find out! Overall, I rate this a seven out of ten, finding it a great book. I would probably say ten and up for this book. The only questionable thing some parents might have is 1 violent scene, but other than that, it’s absolutely fine! I hope you will read this book, if you haven’t already!
